Leg-spinner Adam Zampa suffered a major setback for the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday when he withdrew from the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to personal issues, according to a report. After a productive season for Australia, Zampa—who was retained by the Rajasthan Royals ahead of last year’s auction for Rs 1.5 crore—has withdrew his name. ESPNCricinfo was informed of the development via Zampa’s manager. The right-arm spinner was a member of Rajasthan’s troika of spinners, which also included Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin of India.
With a young family at home, he has been playing in the BBL and Australia’s white-ball series against West Indies, India, and New Zealand since the conclusion of the ODI World Cup in India last year. R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, two of India’s top spinners, are part of the Royals’ roster, yet Zampa still made six appearances in 2023. In a home triumph over Chennai Super Kings, he claimed statistics of 3 for 22 while taking eight wickets at 23.50 with an economy rate of 8.54.
Zampa played with the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (formerly known as Royal Challengere Bangalore) in the Indian Premier League. In his 20 games across the course of four seasons, he claimed 29 wickets.
In recent weeks, the Royals have also lost Prasidh Krishna from their bowling assault due to his season-ending quadriceps surgery. Manoj Badale, the co-owner of the Royals, suggested last week that the teams collaborate more closely with the BCCI’s medical department in response to Prasidh’s injury.
According to Badale, there are always things you’d like to see [the BCCI] improve. This was stated on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast. “Considering how often these athletes are expected to play in various formats, it is obvious that the medical aspect of it is highly crucial.
This season, we’re without Prasidh Krishna once more, which is difficult for us as a team since it hurts to stake 7–8% of your total player budget on a player who ends up out of the tournament. We are making a lot greater effort in the medical field.” The Royals have not yet revealed who will take Prasidh’s or Zampa’s place.
